where to buy bass fish

Bass are one of the most popular and sought-after fish, with dozens of different types and many different sizes. Bass are fun to fish for. They provide a positive impact on a freshwater ecosystem, and they are relatively hardy. With proper care, any lake, river, pond, or inlet can support bass populations. Henneke Hatchery supplies bass for ponds and products for bass fish stocking in Texas, so you can add these fish to your ecosystem.

Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass are among the top bass species for fishing. As upper-echelon predators, largemouth and smallmouth bass can achieve a respectable size and weight. They are also popular fish for eating. Largemouth bass prefer darker, deeper areas where they can hide, such as under fallen trees or amongst rocks, while smallmouth bass prefer shallower, clearer water. White bass and striped bass prefer running water for breeding purposes, though they can be stocked in lakes or ponds for fishing.

To stock your lake, pond, river, or another area with species of bass, contact Henneke Hatchery to learn more about bass fish for sale & stocking in Texas, feed, site management and other options for bass cultivation.

The Florida Bass Conservation Center is the larger, more modern facility located on Withlacoochee State Forest, in Sumter County. It has a visitor's observation area with informative displays, conducts research, and produces the majority of freshwater fish that are stocked in public freshwaters throughout the peninsula. They are also equipped to do fish health analyses and to provide samples for genetic analyses.

Feed training is an important new hatchery technique pioneered by FWC biologists for growing bigger largemouth bass for stocking. These larger "Phase-II" bass have fewer predators and can eat a wider range of prey when stocked than standard stocking bass, increasing their survival rate and stocking effectiveness.

Back sea bass has white flesh that is sweet and mild when cooked. Many prefer to leave the skin on because it crisps up nicely in the pan. We also recommend broiled, poached, and steamed. Check out our Steamed Whole Bass recipe for additional inspiration.

Recreational anglers can fish for striped bass all year, following the rule of keeping just one bass per day of at least 28". But these fish can't legally be sold or purchased. This means for May and much of June, when striped bass are coming into our waters, you don't see local striped bass in your neighborhood fish market, or on the menu at restaurants.

There's plenty of great fishing in store for the long holiday weekend. Kevin Blinkoff of On The Water magazine has the reports and a fishing forecast, along with more details on commercial striped bass fishing, in this week's Fishing News, posted below. Give it a listen.

Guadalupe bass do not grow to large size because they are adapted to small streams. However, a propensity for fast flowing water, and their ability to utilize fast water to their advantage when hooked, make them a desirable sport fish species. Their preference for small streams enhances their allure to anglers because of the natural setting where small streams are usually found. Specimens in excess of 3.5 pounds have been landed.

Both males and females become sexually mature when they are one year old. Guadalupe bass spawning begins as early as March and continues through May and June. A secondary spawn is possible in late summer or early fall. Like all other black bass, Guadalupe bass build gravel nests for spawning, preferably in shallow water. As with spotted bass and smallmouth bass, males tend to build nests in areas with higher flow rates than largemouth bass. When a male has successfully attracted a female to the nest she may lay 400 to over 9,000 eggs. The female is then chased away and the male stands guard over the incubating eggs. After hatching, fry feed on invertebrates and switch to piscivory as they grow older. Very young fish and older adults tend to include more invertebrates in their diet than do largemouth bass. Juveniles and younger adults tend to include more fish in their diets than do largemouth bass.

Seasonal opportunities -- Oregon anglers can enjoy fishing 365 days a year. Some months may be better for fishing, and certainly more comfortable, than others. And some species may not be available year-round, but trout and warmwater anglers can leave their rod strung up all year.

When purchasing from a hatchery facility, individuals must receive a copy of a Fish Health Certificate Report indicating the fish have been tested and found free of harmful fish pathogens within the last 12 months.

List last updated on August 21, 2021: This list is updated periodically by DEC and is distributed for information only to help people find possible sources of certified disease-free fish for stocking their ponds or other privately or publicly owned waters.

The above listed hatcheries have been permitted by DEC. Each facility above has a valid Fish Hatchery Permit, as well as an Import and Possess Grass Carp Permit if selling grass carp. These permits ensure the fish being provided to customers are certified disease free from harmful pathogens and are safe to stock in private waters.

Common in nearly all Kansas' larger reservoirs, white bass are prolific and are generally found in large schools. While popular any time of the year, white bass are known for their spawning runs, which may take them miles upriver of the reservoir. Fishermen gather along the streams near the deeper pools and cast jigs and spinners for the hard fighting white. White bass are so numerous in most Kansas waters, there is no daily creel limit. The Kansas state record white bass weighed 5 pounds, 11 ounces. The world record is 6 pounds, 7 ounces.
